Lab-Grown Diamonds
CbyC Lab-Grown Diamonds
Real diamonds, grown with care
Where demi-fine meets fine. Our lab-grown diamonds have the same brilliance, hardness and sparkle as mined diamonds – every stone IGI certified and individually tested and graded.
What is a lab-grown diamond?
Exactly the same diamond – just a different origin
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It is made of pure carbon with the same crystal structure as a diamond formed in nature, which means it is chemically, physically and optically the same.
It starts with a tiny diamond seed. In a laboratory, the conditions that form diamonds deep inside the earth are recreated, and the diamond grows layer by layer over a few weeks instead of millions of years.
A lab-grown diamond is not a simulant like zirconia or moissanite. The difference from a mined diamond cannot be seen with the naked eye – it takes specialised laboratory equipment to tell them apart.

Our standard
Only the top grades
We have chosen to work only with stones in the upper grades of the scale, so that every diamond sparkles the way a diamond should.
Colour
E–F
Colourless – the two grades just below the very top of the scale.
Clarity
VVS–VS
Very to very, very slightly included – no inclusions visible to the eye.
Cut
Excellent
The highest cut grade, for maximum brilliance and fire.
Certificate
IGI
Every diamond is certified by the International Gemological Institute.
The 4Cs
How a diamond is graded
All diamonds – lab-grown and natural – are graded on the same four criteria.
Cut
How well the diamond is cut and polished. The cut decides how light travels through the stone and is what gives it its sparkle.
Colour
Graded from D (completely colourless) to Z. The less colour, the more the stone reflects pure white light.
Clarity
How free the stone is from small internal features, from FL (flawless) down to I. VVS and VS mean you will not see anything with the naked eye.
Carat
The weight of the diamond. One carat is 0.2 grams. On our necklaces you choose the size of the stone in millimetres.
Lab-grown or natural?
The same diamond, side by side
| Lab-grown | Natural | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Pure carbon | Pure carbon |
| Hardness | 10 on the Mohs scale | 10 on the Mohs scale |
| Brilliance | Identical | Identical |
| Grading | The 4Cs, certified by IGI | The 4Cs, certified by e.g. GIA or IGI |
| Origin | Grown in a laboratory, with a traceable origin | Mined from the earth |
| Price | Lower for the same size and quality | Higher for the same size and quality |
Both are real diamonds. The difference lies in where they were formed – not in how they look or how long they last.

Care
Made to last a lifetime
A diamond is the hardest natural material there is and will not lose its sparkle, cloud or change colour over time. With a little care it will look just as it did on the first day.
Clean your diamond with lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry it with a lint-free cloth. Avoid perfume, lotion and chemicals on the chain, and take your necklace off before exercising, swimming or showering.
Store your jewelry separately in its box – diamonds are so hard that they can scratch other pieces.

Questions about lab-grown diamonds
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond with the same chemical composition, crystal structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is where it was formed.
Can you tell the difference between a lab-grown and a natural diamond?
Not with the naked eye, or even with an ordinary jeweller’s loupe. It takes specialised laboratory equipment to determine whether a diamond was grown in a laboratory or formed in nature.
Will my diamond lose its sparkle or change colour?
No. A lab-grown diamond is just as durable as a natural diamond and does not fade, cloud or change colour over time.
What does IGI certified mean?
The International Gemological Institute (IGI) is one of the world’s largest independent laboratories for grading diamonds. An IGI certificate confirms the diamond’s cut, colour, clarity and carat weight, and that it is lab-grown.
Why is a lab-grown diamond less expensive?
The production chain is shorter and more controlled than for mined diamonds. That means you get a larger or higher-grade diamond for the same budget – without compromising on quality.
Can I order a custom piece with a lab-grown diamond?
Yes, we make custom pieces. Get in touch and tell us what you have in mind, and we will help you find the right stone and design.
